SPC2608 Intro to Public Speaking- AI Presentations
Artificial Intelligence has been around for a while, but recently AI's influence has been growing. Services like ChatGPT, customer service bots, and mood-monitoring apps are just a couple of instances where AI has crept into our everyday lives. The presentations shown in class did an amazing job with their presentations on AI and the pros and cons of using it in in different aspects. With that said, let's dive into the presentations.
Group 3
This time, Group 3 went first. This presentation covered the topics of AI in careers and AI and its effects on mental health. The career portion was excellent. It covered a lot about AI being integrated into many different careers. I was able to bring real-world perspectives into the presentation. There was an interview with Jose Perez, an IT Manager for Miami Dade County, and Anthony Herrera, the Commissioner and Founder of the Miami Basketball League. You can tell from their interviews, that AI has a multitude of benefits in different careers. Jose uses AI for more logistical uses, like data debugging, customer service, and coding. Anthony on the other hand uses it for more creative and athletic uses, like logo designs, and game statistics.
The other people in the career cohort of the presentation touched on many different points. Yaismel showed us how colleges and universities beginning to offer degrees in the field of Artificial Intelligence, with Miami Dade College being the first institution offering degrees like this in the state of Florida. Arianna showed us the timeline of AI and how far we have gotten so far with AI. Interestingly enough, the fist chatbot was actually introduced in the 1960's! Djenah ended off the career portion with reactions to AI. Of course, the main reaction to all this progression with AI is "will a robot replace me?" but we have seen that there are measures in place so that we humans don't become at mercy to AI.

The next part of the presentation for Group 3 was mental health. Mental health is a huge problem already in this generation, and the effect that AI has on mental health can be both positive and negative.
Abigail started off the presentation with insight on the merge between AI and mental health. Yanesis covered the approach that the government took when it comes to helping mental health problems with Artifical Intelligence. The American Rescue Plan is one initiative that the government has taken on when it comes to mental health initiatives. Ashley finished off the mental health presentation with some paths that MDC could take when using AI to help both faculty and students. AI has many unique features that could be so beneficial to us.
Group 2
Group 2 covered the topics of AI in sports and economy. I really enjoyed this presentation since the sports section related to my interview with Anthony Herrera. I found myself fascinated by all the help AI can be when it comes to sports.
A couple of interesting points in this presentation-
Franchesco started it off with the use of sports data tracking and athletic decisions made by AI. AI has proven itself to be very accurate when it comes to tracking performances of plays, athletes, and teams as a whole, it will definitely aid referees in making swifter and unbiased decisions on plays with the help of this technology. Keilin showed us specs of AI's performance in the sports world. The athletic world is a huge huge universe, and it would benefit in the integration with AI.
Overall, it was a very solid presentation made by group 2. I learned a ton of useful information that I probably would have never known about without watching this.
Group 1
Group 1 was the last group to present for this topic. They covered education and social life. As a college student, these are two important areas of my life right now. So I was extremely excited for this presentation, to see how AI affects these two areas of life.
Veronica showed us the history of Miami Dade College, which was super interesting to see! Being as involved as I am in school activities, I thought I knew a lot about the history of MDC, but Veronica gave me a whole new insight that I didn't know about before. Isabella also showed us some of the cool ways we could use AR and VR in learning, which was super cool to me because I am definitely a visual learner. Being able to see some of these aspects that Im learning in 3D would be so cool! she also talked about the negative impact that AI could have on education as well. I could the social detachment point to be extremely interesting, I do agree with it though. With AI, you wouldn't be able to make a meaningful connection with your professors or peers. Her points on the bias was also very interesting as well. AI does gain it's knowledge from historical data so it is possible that it would lead to biased grading and reinforcing harmful inequalities.
The last part of group 1's presentation was on AI in social life. We all know that algorithms in social media are usually tailored to your likes or hobbies. Hemer showed us that algorithms have improved social media by providing more personalized and relevant information when we are scrolling through these apps. I really enjoyed Helder's part of the presentation, since I am an artist myself, I have been trying to figure out a way to use AI in my art, and this portion of the presentation really showed me how I can use it as a tool and how to not use too too much AI on my art. Integrating AI into my artwork would be amazing.
Overall, all three presentations were extremely informative and very well presented and executed. I learned a ton of new information and loved participating in getting interviews for my portion of my parts of the presentation. Thank you for all your hard work everyone!
